After looking at the milaege on the gal last night..i realised that even though it isnt due for another couple of months..it is 12k miles since it was last serviced.

Now..for those of you that service your own cars i would like some help please as i cant afford service/MOT and TAX all at the same time..(MOT and TAX both due end Feb)

would there be anyoneone out there willing to help me service my Gal and make sure that she is MOT ready???

I am asking realllly nicely...would be willing to travel a bit..(long as had directions)...she is now on 70k miles and was last serviced at 57k miles.

please please please can anyone help me??

thanks

Maz ...... if I wasn't working I would be pleased to help you ...... thought about a pre-MOT check? That will give you an idea on costs if anything needs to be done.

What a fully fledged grease monkey like you dont think you could do a service? I'ts easier than most things you have tampered oops messed - no - fiddled with in the last few months

Start with getting the service schedule from the FAQ's. A 70k one is easy peasy - honest

It's all done in very small simple stages with little check boxes you can tick as you go on - and you can do them over a few days if needed.

Go on Maz, you can do it

Mattjnr or I can do you a vagcom scan and service light reset at the karting. That's one job less.

If you get stuck, just ask, I'm sure we'll all help.

never serviced a car in my life!

but have a good idea how to - on the basic stuff.

how would you drain the oil from the sump, without lifts?

ramps?

ive got to drain the oil?..bugger....can it be done with no ramps etc??

Might be worth borrowing a drip tray from one of the fat albert teckies Maz then you drain the lot into it without having to raise the car.

ordered the oil sender/pressure switch from Fords..pick it up at half 4 this aft....all good fun..9.99 it costs.

fingers crossed that is what is wrong at the mo and once changed the oil can will vanish again. As i know there is the correct level of oil in it.

i can only ask Bleeno..though i dont know any of the FA tekkies..i shall flutter me eyelashes and see what i can get lmao..

Do that and they'll do the service for you! ...... now there's an idea ..... I wonder if I flutter my eyebrows to my boss, he'll let me off for the rest of the week?

lol....id like to if i can do the service meself....but i do think i need to sort the oil warning out first...hmmm.....

to be honest...cant remember the last time i fluttered me eyelashes at anyone to get something that i was after...im too blunt for that. :35:  :22:

Maz, I don't mean to stop you when you've gathered so much momentum but which light is on on the dash, level or pressure.

ordered the oil sender/pressure switch from Fords

I'm fairly confident that you have a pressure sensor in your oil filter housing and a level sender in your sump.

I was told..the oil sender....on the dash i have the oil can showing..with the warning..check oil level..which i have done several times since it first came on last night when there was hardly any reading on the dipstick..this morning the can and warning are still there even though the level is just above the max mark on the dipstick..that is with cold engine reading.

IIRC this beast only has an oil pressure switch. A single wire connects it to earth via the switch so if the pressure is low switch closes, makes the circuit and puts the light on.

Bleeno, that is correct for oil pressure. The warning Maz is getting is oil level, different sender.

Maz, I believe that the Galaxy with the 115 & 130 engines, which are VW engines, use the VW oil level sensor. This does not have a float sensor, it uses oil temperature to evaluate level. I'm not going to go too deep technically, but when the light comes on it usually needs some driving mileage after topup to extinguish it. My suggestion is, as it only came on last night, to go out and give it a run and then try it. You maybe replacing a sender that doesn't need replacing.

Thanks Daz ..... so if the car loses oil pressure what warning is displayed?

Thanks for that littledaz..for a tenner ill get it anyway and give it a run later to see if it goes out.....shall take it up the M4 for a couple of junctions...

but if it doesnt go out.....should i replace the sender?

Bleeno, not 100% sure, m8. I am at work and the missus has the Galaxy so can't verify but, I think the message is something like "Stop engine" or "oil press.". Someone may correct me but I'm convinced Maz's issue is purely that it needs a driving cycle.

Sounds reasonable Daz ..... I wonder how many of us would have known that. Seems pointless fitting an oil dipstick these days ...... oh I know .... The dipsticks for him and the "check oil level" for her ..... :22: :35:

you get STOP.OIL PRESS.

had that before ...

I take you're not getting that now Maz?

The handbook says somewhere that if you open the bonnet and close it again, the level warning will go out. If after 63 miles the oil level is still low, the warning comes back on. Do you get a "bonnet open" warning if you leave it open with the ignition on?

Posted

No bonnet open warning..have had bonnet open and level warning still there..no..is not the warning i am getting now.

Have just picked up part number....1206977 oil press switch.

as for running the car...it was run for 2 hours this morning...and on and off all day..just did another run and its still on..how far do i have to run it and for how long?.I keep checking the oil level..and it hasnt moved!

oh..the part was
